Inclusive Ecology Collective (IEC) is a Think-and-Act Network based at NYUSH that leverages interdisciplinary research, intergenerational wisdom, and inter-cosmological expertise to cultivate and catalyze the urgently-needed systemic transformations to address the planetary ecological crisis.

Our global circle of change-makers consist of activists pursuing imaginative and leading-edge work at the intersection of ecology, education, and economic and social justice, who are simultaneously rooted in their local communities and connected through this earth-based network.

ZHANG Liangliang, the initiator and curator of the IEC, is a Chinese anthropologist-educator dedicated to participatory action research and transformative experiential learning centered on ecology and eco-civic actions. The IEC is taking progressive steps to build an earth-based network for socially transformative research, learning, and public engagement. Its growing community of collaborators live and work in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America.

In the inaugural 2024-25 year, the IEC is piloting a Think-and-Act Series centered on “oikos” or “home”, in the spirit of the ancient Greek etymology of “ecology”. The purpose of this series is to expand the understanding of our planetary home through the radical inclusion of indigenous cosmologies, embodied modes of knowing, the voices of those committed to weaving more-than-academic perspectives on ecology, and the practices of those engaged in eco-civic actions that challenge the thresholds of permissibility set by states and multinational corporations.
